What Are Transitions Lenses?

Transitions lenses are photochromic lenses that automatically adjust their tint based on the light around you. Step outside and they darken within seconds to protect your eyes from UV and bright sunlight. Walk back inside and they fade to clear within minutes. The transition is smooth and continuous — you barely notice it happening.

The magic is in the photochromic molecules embedded in the lens material. When ultraviolet light hits the lens, these molecules change shape and absorb visible light, creating a tint. Remove the UV source and they relax back to their clear state. Current-generation Transitions lenses are significantly faster than previous versions — darkening in about 30 seconds and clearing within 2 to 5 minutes.

Every pair of Transitions lenses provides 100% UV protection, blocking both UVA and UVB rays even when the lens appears completely clear. This makes them a practical all-day eye health solution, not just a convenience feature.
